title pic Prom Jewelry Style 2010

Posted by admin on February 4, 2010

It all begins with your promenade robe. Think about it as the base on which you can layer the remainder of your look. Before you go dress shopping, think about your private style. How would you describe yourself? Are you trendy, sporty, fun, fresh, cool, romantic, cutting-edge? Into vintage? High-fashion? Whatever your style, think about how you wish to portray that at promenade.

Got it? Good. Next, think about what styles look excellent on you. Have you got great calves, a killer clavicle, a swan neck, toned arms, luminous baby browns? Think about what you need to focus on. Your private style joined with your private figure-flattering issues will guide your dress shopping. For example, if you are leading edge and need to spotlight your killer calves, select a bold, short sheath dress. If you are romantic and need to show off your great shoulders, select a pearl pink strapless gown with an empire waist. Fortunate for 2010 promgoers, the selections are unlimited. This year, the hottest promenade dress is short, long, tea-length, full, swish, sequined, and easy. It’s sophisticated, jewel-toned, glittery, muted, romantic, gothic, ghetto and retro. It’s sleeveless, strapless, falling and high-necked. In brief everything goes for promenade 2010. What fun! OK, now that you have got your dress, you are prepared to add some flicker. At last, here are my rules for perfect promenade accessorizing : one. Accessories should complement, not compete. When it comes to fashion, understanding how to accessorize is uber-important. If you’ve got a beautiful promenade dress but combine it with gaudy accessories, guess what? You are complete look will fall flat. Go too far and you will just look tacky, cut down too much and hel-lo Plain Jane. The simple way to accessorize perfectly? Think about this rough guide : Easy dresses carry off bold, statement-making jewellery. Busy dresses need sophisticated jewellery. Graceful dresses sans elaborations are like blank canvases. They can carry off cool, diva-inspired crystal  jewellery, like a giant cocktail ring, gobstopper-sized mother-of-pearl beads, a wide cuff or candelabrum earrings. If you like bling, wear an easy dress as backdrop and go to the town. Inversely , in-your-face dresses talk for themselves. They are a focus, and prom jewellery should not compete. Keep accessories easy by selecting pearl studs, a pearl pendant or a diamond tennis bracelet ( real or fake ). The secret is to pull your look together without overpowering it. Remember, though , rules are designed to be damaged. If something works, it works, regardless of what the guidelines say. Two. Do not be too matchy-matchy. Last year, promenade robes were all about metallics and jewel tones. Whether you choose to go with one of these robes this year, or another bold color, don’t match your jewellery to your robe. There’s little more uninteresting than an emerald green dress with matching emerald jewellery. Trite! Instead, select pieces in a suitable color.

Consider how pretty that green dress will look with yellow gems…or how groovy luminous lavender pearls will look against a glossy metallic gown.

Remember how fabulously Marcia Cross’ enormous turquoise earrings set off her white dress at the Emmy’s? Cameron Diaz pulls off the trend well too. If you are not positive how to get the look, read fashion mags for inspiration. Three.

You can have way too much of a great thing. It’s one thing to have great accessories. It’s quite another to overmaster your look with nonessential bling. Look in the mirror. Do you see your accessories first? Your dress? Your hair? You need to notice YOU. You do not need your jewellery, or anything more in fact, to smother you. Pick 1 or 2 standout pieces-like chandelier earrings and a cocktail ring, or earrings and a cuff, but do not do a bold necklace and dangle earrings.

You do not want to be all about the jewellery.

Four. You get what you pay for. Unlike your pretty promenade dress or those beautiful dyed shoes, jewellery is something that you can wear long after the last promenade song has faded. If you are going with classic accessories and you have got a little cash to spare, it’s alright to splurge a bit on, say, an ageless piece like a white crystal necklace. ( Try round freshwater pearls ; they are beautiful and cheap. ) But beware modern pieces. They are fun to wear, but have a shelf-life that is shorter than Paris Hilton’s skirts and are so not actually worth the investment. Spend enough on fashionable pieces so they will not break in the fast songs, but do not overspend on something that you will not wear again. An enormous fake emerald cocktail ring likely will not be in fashion for good but good quality classic pearl pendant or pair of diamond studs will stand the test of time.
